DENTAL CLINIC

operation at kaponga

MEETING OF COMMITTEE At a meeting of the Kaponga district dental committee on Tuesday night a full discussion took place regarding the fees to be charged parents for the ensuing year. The chairman, Mr. C. H. Brewer, said it was the aim of the committee to keep the fee as low as was consistent with the working expenses; it was resolved that the fee be 4s a pupil, the committee unanimously agreeing that at present it would not possible to finance the clinic under this amount. It was stated that a number of clinics in Taranaki charged 5s a pupil. Mr. A. R. Dunlop, Rowan delegate, brought forward a number of complaints regarding non-treatment of some pupils from the Rowan school, but said all the complaints had been investigated and. a lettsr from the dental nurse had satisfactorily explained the reasons for the children not receiving treatment. The district dental superintendent at Hamilton forwarded particulars regarding rules to be observed in connection with the treatment of children at dental I clinics. It was pointed out that delay was frequently experienced in the return of completed consent forms and the payment of fees. As a result the work of the clinic was disorganised and parents might unintentionally forfeit their right to dental clinic treatment for their children. The report submitted by the nurse showed that during the 10 weeks the clinic had been open 173 children had received dental treatment. Of this number 136 had previously been treated and 36 were new ipatients. The clinic has now been closed because all pupils in the area had received their second treatment with the exception of some who were not able to keep appointments. Mr. C. H. Brewer presided and there were present Messrs. L. A. R. Pepperell (Awatuna), E. E. Johns (Makaka), A. R. Dunlop (Rowan), M. F. Voullaire (Riverlea), W. Melville (Kaponga Convent), C. A. Corder (Kaponga) and H. H. Elmes, secretary.
