Singles Bowfing Championship. The Stratford bowling club's singles championship will be decided this weekend, when Coe will meet Lawson on the Stratford green. At Ihe beginning of the week there were three players left— Coe, Marsh, and Lawson. In a game on Tuesday Lawson beat Marsh, who had two lives, by 21 to 18. Coe met Marsh on Wednesday and defeated him after a very close struggle by 21-20. Advertisers' Announcements. The annual meeting of the Stratford women's golf club will be held in Mr. T. Smith's rooms on Monday, February 28, at 8 p.m. What would you do if a Fairy Godmother appeared and gave you all your wishes? How such an episode affected an essentially modern family of young folk is the subject of a delightfui juveniie comedy entitled "The Slippers of Cinderella," which is to be presented at the Stratford Horticultural Soclety's autumn show on Tuesday night at eight o'clock. Civil Judgments. Plaintiffs were given judgment by default in the following undefended civil cases: Dr. D. Steven v. W. H. C. Kerr, £5 15s 6d (costs £1 12s 6d); McMillan and Fredric Ltd. v. C. J. Gill and Son, £10 17s 4d (costs £2 14s). Under a judgment summons C. H. James was ordered to pay Wnv Ladd £3 6s within a month, in default four days' iir\prisonment. For failure to pay employment l^vies P. D. L. Scown was convicted and ordered to pay costs 12s. Frank R. Weston and Frederick Anderson, Whangamomona, were convicted and ordered to pay costs £1 0s 6d in eacn case for permitting stock to wander on a side road in the Whangamomona district. Opening of School Postponed. The opening of the new school at Cardiff was to have been held on Thursday, but owing to the inability of members of the education board to attend the ceremony was postjsoned to next Wednesday. Eltham F&ewell Evening. A surprise party organised by Misses M. Peebles, P. Patterson, P. Campbell and D. Pepperell visited the home of Mr. and Mrs. E. L. Egarr, Eltham, to farewell Miss Laurie Egarr and Cliff Egarr. A presentation of a goid bangle was made to Miss Egarr and of a silver serviette ring to Cliff Egarr. Farewell Presentation. Mr. T. M. Brooks, clerk) of the court at Stratford, who will leave on transfer for Queenstown next week, was presented with a crystal salad bowl, fork, and spoon by Justices of the Peace at Stratford yesterday at a farewell gathering. The presentation was made by Mr. W L. Kennedy, other speakers being Messrs. W. Mclnnes, H. C. North, and C. R. Finnerty. They all remarked on the help and courtesy «e:*tended to them by Mr. Brooks during his two and a half years at Stratford and wished him and his family success. Industrial Visits. Sixth standard pupils of the Stratford primary school were taken on visits of inspection to Stratford industries this week. One visit was paid to the Stratford Dairy Company's factory and the other to a timber milL These visits are part of the educational scheme to give pupils an insight into everyday manufacturing and business methods. Expensive Machinery. One of the most expensive machinery units delivered at Stratford was unloadea at the railway yard yesterday. It comprised a Diesel tractor and scoop costing roughly £4000, it is stated. The plant will be used by a Stratford firm of contractors, ehiefiy on Public Works contracts.
