FIREMEN ASSEMBLED

DOMINION CONFERENCE NEW PLYMOUTH AS VENUE The season of Dominion conferences with New Plymouth as the venue will be opened on Monday when the United Fire Brigades' Association's 59th annual conference will begin. The conference is expected to be the largest ever held and between 180 and 200 representatives, including wives of delegates, are expected to be present. Many of the delegates are already at New Plymouth, but the majority are expected to arrive to-day. Delegates will be informally welcomed at the New Plymouth fire station at 8.30 tonight. Plans for the conference were discussed by the executive at a meeting yesterday. The executive comprised SuperintendentA. J. Bennett, Nelson, president of the United Fire Brigades' Association, Mr. D. L. Furguson, Gisborne, and Foreman C. H. Carey, Patea,' vice-presidents, Superintendent A. Craig, Hamilton, immediate past president, Mr. C. A. Osborne, Onehunga, treasurer, Captain T. J. Watts, Newmarket, advisojy superintendent and secretary. On Sunday morning there will be a chureh parade, and at 2.30 o'clock in the afternoon a band concert at Pukekura Park, where the visitors have a special invitation from the Park Board to visit the femery. The Conference will begin in St. Mary's hall at 9 o'clock on Monday morning, and at 10 o'clock there will be a civic welcome by the Mayor of New Plymouth, Mr. E. R. C. Gilmour, Mr. S. G. Smith, M.P., Mr. E. J. Carr, chairman of the New Plymouth Fire Board, and Mr. C. E Bellringer, past-president of the association. The conference will continue in the afternoon and evening. On Tuesday the conference will continue at 9 a.m. At 10.30 in the afternonon cara will leave St. Mary's hall for a trip

to North Egmont, and at 7.30 p.m. there will be a firemen's procession to Pukekura Park, where an athletic meeting will be held, and there will be a band and orchestra concert, and a water display with coloured lights. Wednesday will be the last day of the conference. The day's work will begin at 9 a.m., and will be completed in the evening. At 1.45 p.m. cars will leave St. Mary's hall for a motor drive through North Taranaki, via Richmond Road to Inglewood, where the delegates will be the guests of the Inglewood Fire Brigade for afternoon tea at the town hall at 3 ' o'clock.
