SCHOOLS, FESTIYAL
CENTRAL TARANAKI AREA CULTURAL TRAINING A combined schools festival of folk dancing, drama, music, and physical drill will probably be held at the Stratford primary school this term. A meeting of teachers from 20 central district schools was held at Stratford on Thursday, when Mr. F. T. Warren, inspector, discus'sed with them a combined festival on the lines of those successfully held at other centres in Taranaki last year. The scheme was much more than a form of entertainment, it was stated. It had valuable eulturaJLjpossibilities which would be of great vaj|fe to the children. The proposed programme included folk dancing, plays, part-songs, band items, recitations, and physical drill. It was suggested that the proceeds of the festival might well be used for extending the school library system. Mr. L. M. Fairbrother, the acting headmaster of the Stratford school, was elected chairman, with Mr.' J. H. Thomas as secretary. The following schools were represented by the 36 teachers present: Stratford, Stratford Convent, Toko, Huinga, Midhirst, Denbigh, Croydon, Tuna, Stanley Road, Tu Popo, Bird Road, Pukengahu, Douglas, Huiroa, Cardiff, and Waingongora.
