Mrs. W. J. Bright and Misses Mary and Anne Bright left yesterday on a short holiday visit to Rotorua. Miss Eileen Blundell, New Plymouth, was Mrs. I. Rota's guest at Ohawe beach last week-end. Miss Leila Hurlimann left for Auckland last week-end on a transfer "of several months. Mrs. E. du Fresne has returned from Opunake beach, Miss A. Duffill and Miss J. Wylds left early in the week on a short visit to Auckland, Miss le Fleming is spending a few days with relatives in South Taranaki prior to her departure for England early next month. Twenty-First Birthday, Mrs, G. Grindrod entertained a number of friends at her hpme for a high birthday tea on Tuesday, and afterwards gt a pictiire party, conqluding with supper, to mark the qccasion of her daughter Beryl's coming of age. The guest of the evening ehose a light navy flowered silk fgille, with which she wore a shoulder spray of pink roses and fern. The table fqr the birthday tea was arranged with helio and pink flowers. Those present included Mesdames L. Pacey, A. Murdoch, J, Sargeson, Misses J, Grindrod, Elsie Rudge, Betty Tonks, Sylvia Davy,' Joan Moore, June Egglestone, Verena Fihdlater, T. Cressey, Z. Nieholas, Z. Rogers, E, Reid, B. Metson, V. Brown and M. Pearce. Afternoon Teas. Wearing a dark brown ,flowered silk marlaine flowered frock relieved with beige georgette, Mrs, A. Woodward entertained several friends at afternoon tea at the club on Tuesday. Mesdames S. C, Tonks, W, A. G'Callaghan, W. J. Bright, L. Jr Bull, S. R. Oliver, MacPhergon (Paraparaumu), W. McL'Dowie, Tonks (Wellington), Martfti (Bay of Islands), W, Hamilton, C. R. Bayley and Miss B. Watty were her guests. Petunias, phlox and hydrangeas made gay patches of colour in the drawingroom on Wednesday afternoon when Mrs. L, J, Bull, who was gowned in a brown and ivory flowered crepe fomaine frock, welcomed friends^ to tea. Her sister, Miss B. Watty, wore an attractive frock figured in honey gold, rose and black, The guests present included Mesdames W. A. O'Callaghan, Martin (Russell), A. Woodward, S. C. Tpnks, L, C. Hawk, W. M. Thomson and Symes and Miss A. Symes. Club Social Afternoon. Mesdames P. O. Veale, W. Syme, P. J. Oakley, E. P, Rait, W- R. Shaw, W. K. Lowe, A. Evans Benney (Wellington), W. Adams, W. Hamilton, Moorhouse, R. B. Douglas, C. H. , Washer and Misses Foy (Auckland), , L. Hay-Mackenzie, J. and K. McKenzie, K. O'Donnell and A. Macalister were among those present at the Women's Club on Thursday when Miss E. Caplei) acted as hostess at the first social afternoon held this year. These afternoons are being arranged by the committee for the benefit of new members to become acquainted with other members, the two held towards the end of last year being iriost successful. The hostess wore a deep navy figured frock and matching hat of American straw. Cactus dahlias and African marigolds mingled with gypsophila were attractively arranged in- the large lounge where tea was served. Farewell Party. On Wednesday evening Miss Hazel Burn, who is leaving to take a positior) in Hawkes, Bay, ! was the guest of honout at a farewell evening tendered her by fellow members of the staff of C. C. Ward Ltd. at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Leo Marter. Miss Burn was presented with a shoulder spray made by Miss B. Tonks, and Mr. A. E. Prime, on behalf of the staff, asked her to accept a bedside lamp with their good wishes. In reply Miss Burn said her association with the staff would always be among her most pleasant memories. Items were contributed by Mr. A. Prime (humorous), Misses V, Cameron and B. Tonks (vocal duet), Misses Helen Lithgow and M. Bailey (a humorous sketch), and Misses M. Bailey and J. Marter (pianoforte duet). Competitions wero won by Misses H, Burn and V. Cameron. Dancing and games proceeded after supper to the conclusion of a yery bright party. Misses Bailey and Marter played the dance music. Mr. J. Gribble on behalf of those assembled thanked Mr. and Mrs. Marter the use of their home. Those,' present included Misses H. Burn, J. and M. Marter, V. Cameron, J. England, J. Johnston, M. Apel, D. Pearce, J. Baker, M. Crawford, H. Lithgow, B. Tonks, D. Brown, B. Claringboid and M. Bailey.
