WENDY'S DRESSMAKERS

Wendy's Dressmaker.

A KNITTED TRIANGLE SCARF. This week, by special request, we are telling a girl how to knit a triangle scarf in a simple pattern. You will need about two ounces of wool, 3-ply or 4-ply, according to the thickness, required and a pair of number 8 needles. Start at the lower point of the triangle, casting on two stitches. K2, and in the next row increase by knitting into the front and back of both stitches, so tha^ you have four on the needle. Continue now in garter-stitch (every row plain knitting), increasing one stitch at the end of every row, until you have 20 stitches on the needle. Next row, K7, P to within six stitches from the end, and K to end, increasing in the last stitch, as usual. Next row, all K. Repeat these two rows four times, and then do two rows of plain knitting. Continue thus until the triangle is the size you want. There will be 10 rows of stocking stitch and two of garter stitch alternately. Remember that the purl rows of the stocking stitch will al-

ways come on the wrong side of the work. By working the seven garter stitches at each end of every row, all the time, you~ will get pretty little borders at the sides. You could make a pretty variation of the triangle by combining different colours for the bands of stocking stitch and garter stitch, and it would be a good idea to use up oddments of wool this way. If you are pressed for time, you can. make an attractive triangle entirely in garter stitch. Just go on backwards and forwards in plain knitting, and remember to increase in the last stitch of every row. In cherry, apricot, emerald or blue, a triangular scarf looks well with a plain dark dress. If you want a thin scarf. use knitting silk or thread, but you will have to do more work.
