Iverlea: Mrs, Hughes presided over a good attendance at the monthly meetLn Mrs. Fowler gave a demonstration on making rugs and cushipns from old felt hats. -Miss Jean. Southern won the afternoon's competition. Mrs. Gargan won a competition for an apple tart. Mrs. Gargan and Miss E. Chapman were hcstesses. . Normanby: Mrs. A. S. Knuckey presided over a fair attendance at the monthly meeting. A motion of sympathy in her illness was passed with Mrs. Ritter. Nominations for the new executive committee were reeeived. A bring and buy stall was held under the supervision of ivtrs. A. Leydon. Mrs. A. McAsey, Te Ro ti, demonstrated barbola work and the Hostesses were Mesdames A. J. Hopci'oft,. L. Scott and J. Coutts. The points competition was won by Mrs. Scott with Mrs. J. Meuli second and- Mrs. V. F. Howell third. A competition for a coconut cake was won by Mrs. E. Harrison, Mrs; Leydon being second and Mrs. J. Coutts third. Waitara: In the absence of the president the chair was taken by the vicepresident, Mrs. Dowling, at the monthly meeting. Letters of thanks were reeeived from the New Plymouth Old (People's Home for a parcel of. books and. from the Disabled Returned Soldiers for the sale of goods. Designs for a banne^ for, the'. forthcoming Federation meeting were discussed, and it was decided to enter one for the. r competition. Arrangements were made to hold a picnic at. Burgess Park on February 27, Baby Davies,- the- second institute baby, was present. Mrs. R. Grant was elected delegate to attend a dressmaking class by Miss Johnson, Massey College. The monthly competition for a jar of plum jam. brought a number .of. entries, and; judged- by 'Mrs, Hr Clarfe, resulted: Mesdames' Armstrong ; and -Davies : equal 1,Mrs. F. 'Clare 2, Mrs Sisley 3. Two roll calls proved interesting and amusing: Hostesses for the afternoon were Mesdames Hingsley, Eliot, and F. Clare. Invitations were reeeived from the Brixton Women's Institute and the Lepperton W.D.F.U. to their respective garden parties to be held this month. The Arts and Crafts Circle held its first meeting ihis year. Miss Giddy demonstrated tatting.
