Stratford , will next week see the opening of one ■ of the most modern department stores , when Messrs. J. R. McKenzie Ltd. com- j mence„.business in their new shop on Broadway. No greater evidence of the tremendous advance that has been made in recent years in the business of supplying everyday needs of the people could be found than in an up-to-date ! department store, and Messrs. McKenzie's new shop is a fine example of the high degree of attractiveness and efnciency that the average shopper now expects of successful businesses of the ^When a Daily News reporter visited the store yesterday he found the place a hive of industry. Workmen were putting the finishing touches to the interior, which is treated in an attractive red, gold and buff colour scheme. Young women were busy stocking the ^ display tables with the numerous Imes handied Oy the company. Pleasing Appearance. Despite the fact that everything was not then finished, the store presented a pleasing appearance. An amazing assortment of Christmas novelties was beuig unpacked. As in other McKenzie stores, signs suspended from the ceiling enable customers to locate the various departmentswith a minimum of trouble. These m themselves give one an idea of the service McKenzie's Ltd. will give the people of Stratford and district. At one entrance is the confectionery department, and then follow in order departments for fancy goods, literature, household ware, wool, frocks, china and glassware, men's requisites. toiletries and a number of other classes of goods. All departments are easily accessible and there is likely to be little congestion or blockage on busy days, the aisles having been made especially wide. Large fanlights effectively illuminate the display tables in every department. Cleanliness and brightness are features of the store, and even the most fastidious could find no fault with the hygienic conditions under which confectionery will be sold. Everything is enclosed in dust proof cases and the stands are kept spotlessly clean. Arrangements For Staff. Recognising the value. of satisfied, contented workers, the firm has catered for the general welfare of the staff in an admirable way. Not only have the assistants attractive, healthy conditions under which to work, but also a very comfortable rest and cloalc room has bqen provided where they may relax. Realising that the success of any business must depend finally on the quality of its goods, Messrs. McKenzie Ltd. has as its buying policy a skjgan with which New Zealanders will entirely agree. It is "New Zealand goods first, British second and foreign third," and evidence of this policy can be seen on every display stand. On Thursday, November 25, the newest and most modern department store at Stratford will be opened to members of the public, who will have the opportunity of appreciating, personally, not only the very best service available, but also the most reasonable values that have ever been offered.
