Housing Of Books Adjustable Shelves
The increasing popularity of flat life has evolved a type of furniture specially designed with an eye to obtaining the maximum of comfort in the minimum amoimt of space. In no single piece of furniture is tlus more apparent than in the bookcase— an indispensable article in this age of criticism and reading when books and magazines of all countries play an important part in the life of the people. Very popular to-day i the bureaubookcase, which, besides providing an attractive setting for books, is also fitted with a writing desk. Some of these are in beautifully grained woods, such as highly veneered walnut, Italian walnut, oak and rnaple. Adjustable shelves are a new and important feature of the latest combination bookcases, for they allow the housing of large encyclopaedias. Another interesting development is found in the automatic slides, which support and make rigid the leaf of the writing desks. One particularly fine example in one of our large city stores is in highly polished walnut veneer, with two long cupboards at either end, one for china and glassware, and the otlier for books, a writing desk in the upper central part, and another cupboard for books at the bottorn. This bookcase features the latest plain glas3 doors arid modern door handles. No longer are palm stands or pedestals used expressly for holding pot plants, but. tliey are so cleverly designed tliat tliey also form useful bookcases. Book troughs in many different designs are also gaining in popularity.
