Christchurch, Nov. 5. The "weather was fine but cold wlien trainlng work started at Riccarton this morfdng, while even after the sun broke through there was a strong wind. A few horses sprinted on the outside m the course proper and others on the plough, which was fast, but uiost were given only useful pace work on the plough. Lustral opened proceedings, going six furlongs ln 1.16 1-5. Sigurd following a little later In 1.17. Laughing Lass was slightly in front ox Oratory all through a five furlong spin in 1.1, while Paper Slipper, assisted by Haughty Winner over the- last. three furlongs, registered a similar time. These were two smart gallops. Friesland Leads Lowenberg. Friesland led Lowenberg easily over three furlongs in 39. Lickem doing 38. Owlsgleam and Screamer went well to register 1.1 4-5 for five furlongs, while Felmet and Rabble sprinted half a mile in 49 3-5. After breakfast Stolen March and Made Money went half a mile in 49 3-5. Lord Nuffield .and Daring Deed ran five furlongs in 1.2 3-5, Combat following over six furlongs, doing it easily in 1.19 3-5. , Tauramol strode along freely at a working gallop over seven furlongs on the course. , ... Sunee was an early worker, going with great dash to register 48 3-5 for half a mile. The Bigot was not extended over six furlongs in 1.18 2-5. Protector ran three furlongs up the back in 37 2-5. Trcbleack and Milford. Trebleack and Milford took 1.5 fbr five furlongs, a time that Slegmond and Windward equalled. The two-year-old Passaform and Neptune sprinted down the straight. ^ Fog Peak ran half a mile in 50 3-5 and finished well. . Ortyx dashed over half a mile m 48 1-5, a brilliant effort. Hunting Cat has not been on the track since he came to Riccarton a few days ago, having had his legs cut through getting tbem over the ra,il on the steamer. He is unlikely to start in the New Zealand Cup, but it is hoped he will be able to race before the end of the meeting. Lady Chat was scratched for the Spring Plate at 2.40 p.m. yesterday.
