LILE SHIELD HELD
- JvUGBY LEAGUE TROPHY MATCH. INGLEWOOD'S DEFEAT OF RAHOTU. Rahotu was the venue.of the match to decide the Rugby League team to hold the Lile Shield. Rahotu full'y extended the holder, Inglewood, in a close, hard i fought game which Inglewood won by eight points to three, and on the run of the game a draw should have been the result. Rahotu forwards had the better of the game. All the forwards worked well arid D. Lewis, as hooker, secured more than has share of the ball from the scrum. Mitchell proved himself to be a much improved player, and he was ably assisted by C. Letherby. Contrary to expectations, Rahotu backs did not rise to the occasion, and weak tackling by the inside backs gave Inglewood the winning try. Robinson at half played a great game and J. Letherby was the pick of the other backs. Inglewood played as a team and is to be congratulated on the
xecovery it has made during the season. All the Inglewood forwards played a great game and Yeates and Zimmerman appeared the pick of a hard working pack of forwards. Inglewood backs showed more enterprise than their opponents and the win was due to this. The outstanding backr on the ground was McRoberts, and the, way in which he beat the opposition paved the way for the winning try. K. and W. Wells played a good game, but Corlett appeared to have a day off. His handling was not as safe as usual. Hopson at wing three-quarter played a good game and is a much improved player. The teams were: — Inglewood: King, Hopson, McRoberts, Corlett, K. Wells, W. Wells, Gannaway, Han wright, Dodunski, Schmanski, Yeates, G. Yeates, Zimmerman. Rahotu: Stewart, D. Lewis, C. Letherby, Cullan, Mitchell, Kahui, Robinson, Tamatea, J. Letherby, Irvine, ' G. Lewis, Reta, Thompson. ' iRahotu, winning the toss, played against the wind and rushed play to the Inglewood line. A good kickby Cor- -• lett relieved and Rahotu returned to the attack, and Robinson was caught offside. Corlett found the line with a good kick. Inglewood, securing from the scrum, sent the backs away and a knock-on by Hopson spoiled a good chance. Inglewood pressed and from a five-yard scrum Robinson secured and cleared, finding the line on the half -way mark. Rahotu carried play to the Inglewood twenty-five, when Mitchell intercepted and sent C. Letherby over for a score in a good position. Robinson's kick , failed. : „ Inglewood soon had Rahotu defending and Corlett missed an easy kick for an infringement. Inglewood secured from the scrum and sent the ball out to Mc- ' Roberts, who passed to Hopson. Hopson passed in to McRoberts, who scored in the corner. Corlett's kick failed. Rahotu strove hard to regain the lead and Lewis dived over under the posts but was brought back for an infringement. Halftime was called with Inglewood defending. Rahotu with the wind soon had Inglewood defending, and J. Letherby was pushed out in the corner. G. Yeates carried play to half-way, and from a forward scramble Yeates broke through, but he hesitated when he reached the full-back and lost a possible try. Inglewood backs were now playing a great game, and McRoberts sold Lewis a dummy and reverse passed to W. Wells. ' He sent the ball out to K. Wells, who passed back to McRoberts. McRoberts sent the ball on to W. Wells, who finished off a good movement by scoring under the posts. Corlett made no mistake with the kick. Striving to equalise, Rahotu carried play to the Inglewood line and time was called with Inglewood defending. Inglewood 8 Rahotu 3 „Mr. A. Dixon refereed.
