QUICK KNOCK-OUT

PKOFESSIONAL BOXING MATCH. LOVERIDGE DEFEATS PARKER. Tom Loveridge (Tariki) beat Alan Parker (Palmerston North), both 9st 121b, in a professional boxing qontest at Eltham last night. The fight went only to the fourth round, when Loveridge secured a knock-out, Parker being unable to continue. In the previous rounds he made a promising showing but collapsed suddenly after being knocked down and recovering to meet three terfific punches in the jaw. Light sparring, in-fighting and few brisk interchanges were seen in an even opening round. Adopting caution, Parker defended well against Loveridge's attacks and seized opportunities to get through the defence with a smashing volley to gain the points in the second round. Parker scored with straight lefts and rights in !the third round and continued to cover himself well against attack. Loveridge forced the fight, but Parker took much on his glove and the round was fairly even. Loveridge continued his aggressiveness in the fourth round and knocked Parker out before the round had gone a minute. Mr. R. W. Haddow was referee and at the conclusion the trophies were presented by the patron, Mr. J. Sheehy, who complimented the winners on their performance. Amateur bouts resulted:— H. Parsons (Palmerston North) 9st 41b beat C. Copestake (Stratford) 9st 71b. After a bad start Cppestake recovered to win the first round. Connecting to the face, Parsons earned points in the second round, which ended with Copestake attacking well. The third round was fast, both receivhig puhishment, Parsons leading most and gaining a close decision. . C. Gishard (Tariki) lOst 21b beat T. Tetau (Palmerston North) lOst 21b. The bout opened with well matched sparring, the Palmerston boxer gaining a slight advantage in a light-hitting round. Following up to advantage, Tetau made several good connections in the second round and earned more points. Gishard fought willingly in the third round and made a great recovery to gain the decision. The final round was full of excitement.

H. Candy (Pungarehu) 11st 41b beat L. Lines (Rowan) 11st 2lb. Fighting strongly front the gong, Candy had the best of the first round and gave much punishment, despite a good showing by Lines. In the second round Lines had Candy missing badly and "a willing niix-in ensued, Lines having a slight advantage. The pace in the third round was fast, with an even exchange of hard hitting. Candy's vigorous showing towards the end gained him the decision. C. Marshall (Eltham) 11st beat S. Yiavacis (Palmerston North) 11st 11b. Fighting at lightning speed, Marshall scored heavily in the opening round, the visitor slowing up before the gong. The next round was steadier, the Palmerston boxer being elusive but he was twice in difficulty and the round went to Marshall. The Eltham man opened the third round viciously, but by crouching low Yiavicis had Marshall puzzled and his blows failed to connect, but general superiority gave him the decision. L. Huzziff (Tariki) lOst 121b beat J. Page (Palmerston North) 11st 71b. Conceding 91b, L. Huzziff by superior footwork and fast hitting outboxed his heavier opponent, whose opening attack was soon slowed down in the first round. The second rOund was more even, Page .scoring with several powerful blows, but agility stood to Huzziff and he had a slight margin. Page launched a strong attack but could not continue the pace, and Huzziff made a good finish to a good (bout and won the contest.
