BALLAST DISCARDED

By Telegraph—Press Assn.—Copyright.

america cup contest. EXAMINATION OF ENDEAVOUR, '

Rec. 10 p.m. Newport, Aug. 4. The British yacht Endeavour H. jettisoned two and a-half tons of lead ballast to-day, hoping to increase her speed in light winds. After an examination of the hull of the.Endeavour II., which was found to be clean, Mr. T. O. M. Sopwith said: "There must be some explanation for what happened. We were going along nicely and holdiing well into the wind when suddenly she began to lose way. We eased off and the Ranger sharpened, pointing close to wind ward and forcing us back over. We lost the race right there."
