Rec. 7 p.m. Winnipeg, July 15. Marrying nine women for their sav- ' ings, George Roediger was sentenced to nine years', imprisonment. Julia Betink, 1':; widow, gave him £200 to start a store in >;jpj Ontario, but he vanished. The pclice -'-/i state that his first wife died under mysterious circumstances at St. Catherines. The body of his second wife was found in a well at Catslrill, New York. An unsuccessful search was made for the fourth wife, Christina McKenzie/ who vanished at Toronto. \ .•/ Roediger then married Roberta" Barcroft, a wealthy widow, at Vancouver in . 1934. He terrorised her in a locked apartment until she gave a cheque for. £10,000. She cunningly signed incor- ; rectly, hOwever, and the. cheque was refused by the bank.
