AN AMAZING ADVENTURE.
, From time to time the world is astonislied by adventures tliat come . to quite ordinary people, and here is the latest story. Two .young men left their car riear the pier at Ilfracombe in Devon, in order to en joy a quiet str oll along the deserted beach. All went well for a time, but suddenly they f ound it was impossible to get back owing to the rise of the tide. . . "Now we're in a niess," muttered the elder of the two, "There's only one thihg we can do." He pointed to a small boat moored a few yards out from the shore. "We'd better take that and try to reach the town by sea." The other was game but, despite their combined efforts,. tlieys were carried out to sea, where they were pickted up by a small tramp steamer bound for Buenos Aires. "Hum!" mused the skipper when he heard the story. "I'll do my best to put you aboard a- homeward bound ship, but I can't promise anything. In the meantime, make yourselves useful." . No opportunity came for tlie young men to be sent home, 'and they finally reached South America and did odd jobs until the time came for the same steamer to retum to England. . Even then the adventurers did not come straight home, but sailed across the South Atlantic to South Africa. Thus, several months eiapsed before tliey reached Ilfracombe once more and could claim the car that had been left by the pier. Of course they communicated witli their ' relatives as soon as possible, but can you beat that for an afternoon stroll along the sea beach?
