OUR KNITTING CORNER

KNIITED IvETTLE-HOLDER. A gift that is always useful is a kettle holder. Many and varied are the ways for xnaking these, but if the following instructions are carefully followed a holder ratfaer different from the ordinary square shape, but just as useful, will result. Two dlfferently-coloufed 4-ply wools are required, say blue and fawn, half an ounce of each being sufficient. They are worked with a pair of No. 12 knitting needles. Two silk pompoms are also required. With the blue wool commence by casting on 8 stitches. Join on the fawn wool (do not break off the blue), and cast on 8 stitches in this colour, then draw the blue wool rather tightly across the back (to give a pouehed effect) and cast on 8 stitches. Then, with the fawn wool, I draw tightly across the back and cast 011 8 stitches, then 8 more stitches in the blue, and 8 in the fawn, and finally 8 stilclr.es in blue. Ncxt row (which will be the wrong side of the work):.Knit 8 in the blue. Bring the woOl to the back of the work, then pass the fawn wool under the point of the right-hand needle and knit 8 stitches. Bring . Ihe wool back to the wrong side 6f the work and put the: fawn wool forward agairi. Continue in this way to the end of the row. | Next row:. Knit across all, the stitches, 1 changing the colour after every 8th ! stitch. Repeat these last two rows for Al inches, then cast off. To. make up: Sew up at botli ends, drawing the pouehed part up slightly, and to each end attach a pompom. The kettle holder is then complete.
