CARDIFF BRANCH MEETING. APPOINTMENT OF OFFICERS. The Cardiff branch of the Young Farmers' Club held its first annual meeting on Wednesday night. The chairman, Mr. A. Johnson, presided over a large attendance of members and visitors. The chairman 's report congratulated the members on tbeir keenness in the work of the club. The progress made in the first year of existence augured well for the future.' In membership the club was now one of the strongest in Taranaki. Credit was due to the secretary, Mr. Brunton, whose good work had been rriostly responsible for the success of the club. The balance-sheet showed a credit of £2 4s, which was considered very satisfactory. The election of officers resulted: President, Mr. A. O'Sullivan; chairman, Mr. A. Johnson; secretary and treasurer,_ Mr. W. Brunton; committee, Messrs. -Steiner, Davidson, Rayner, Jordan and Kemsley. Mr. A. G. Elliott, of the Agricultural Department, ' gave a talk on the club movement, congratulating the club on its very successful first year and expressing ithe hope of being. able to establish several more branches in North Taranaki. Farmers' Unioii. The Cardiff branch of. the Farmers' Union on Tuesday night held its annual meeting, Mr. H. Marchant presiding over a representative attendance. The report revealed a very successful year. Seven ordinary meetings were held, besides a meeting of ratepayers which was attended by a large crowd. A debate with the Young Farmers' Club was also held. A district sports-picnic was held in conjunction with the Women's Division and Young Farmers' Club and - was very successful. A calfrearing competition among the three local schools was also carried out successfully. A team from the ■ branch attended the Farmers' Union shoot at New Plymouth. Officers elected were: President, Mr. H. Marchant; vice-presidents, six were elected; secretary, Mr. H. Clemow; auditor, Mr. C. A. Marchant; delegates to Taranaki conference, Messrs. H. Marchant, R. Belcher and J. Stewart; delegates to sub-provincial executive, Messrs. H. Marchant and H. Nowell. Mr. T. T. Murray addressed the members on present day problems and on the membership campaign.
