RATAPIKO FARMERS
ANNUAL MEETING OF UNION. APPOINTMENT OF OFFICERS. At the annual meeting of the Ratapiko branch of the Farmers' Union Mr. M. Nolan presided over a good attendance. The report stated that membership had increased by four, although a number of new settlers had not yet joined. The president had spent one day with the judging of roots and ensilage and attended all executive meetings. He also stressed the need of entering the pasture competitions. A comprehensive review was given of the membership campaign, the union's financial position and the proposals put forward by the provincial executive for improvements. The president thanked .all who had assisted during the year, including the W.D.F.U. He said that as he would probably be leaving the district be would not seek re-election. He had been 13 years president and for seven years was both secretary and president. Mr. Williams eulogised the work of the president and called for a vote of thanks. The balance-sheet showed a surplus of £4 5s ld. The president was voted an bonorarium — . £3 3s. 'The election of officers resulted: President, Mr. Brough; vice-presidents, Mr. Olsen and Mr. J. Stachurski; Secretary, Mr. Willans; auditor, Mr. Heyes; committce, Messrs. F. Stachurski, Karalus and Martin; delegate to conference, Mr. M. Nolan. A remit to the conference is tliat all counly councils should take over noxious weed control. Mr. Marchant, of the Stratford subprovincial executive, gave an interesting address on topics of interest to farmers and was given a vote of thanks. Supper was supplied by the Women's Division, vvhich W9S accoxded § vote of thanks.
