ANNUAL MEETING OF BRANCH. " OBSERVANCE OF ANZAC DAY. An active and useful year, despite a decline of membership, was reviewed at the annual meeting of the Patea branch of the Returned Soldiers' Association. Dr. W. T. Simmons presided. A credit balance of £116 was reported. The membership was only 67, compared with 103 two years ago. Tlie annual ball was the ball of the season, the report stated. Appreciation of the work of Mrs. A. A. Carey in organising poppy saies in the district and of the Women's Institute invitat-ion to afternoon tea after the Anzac service was expressed. «. Officers elected were: President, Dr. W. T. Cummingharii, L. Clarke, N, Coad, A.- A. Carey, A. Taylor • and G. Schwass ; secretary, Mr. C. -Martin; auditor, Mr. G. P. Pettigrew; . honorary solicitor, Mr. T. E. Roberts. Tribiiie to the work of the retiring secretary, Mr. A. -A. Carey, was paid by several speakers. A donation of £1 ls was made to the Patea Municipal Band. . Messrs. Schwass and Foreman, Manutahi, and Mr. J. R. Brennan, Patea, were elected new members. : General opposition was expressed to any change in the date of observance of Anzac Day.
