Elaborating on a letter of" explanation receiyed ' from the PoSt; .and Telegraph Departnient, the postmaster, Mr. G. Brown, explained to a.\ meeting of the chamber that because of the. increased expense involved in eompilation of directories in other centres in Taranaki and New Zealand, the privilege accorded to Hawera of having its list placed first in its own books had had to be discontinued. A uniform system using different coloured papers would be introduced throughout the Dominion. Other members were of the opinion that little cxtra expense would be involved, and the chamber decided to inform the departnient that it regarded' the reply as unsatisfactory and if necessary would seek to have the matter taken up with the Associated Chambers of Commerce. The department's attitude made the matter a national rather than domestic one it was stated. Unusual Collision. Two slow-moving horse-drawn vehicles were involved in a collision near the Whenuakura dairy factory. One driver, Mr. S. J. Hird, was thrown across his vehicle and suffered severe chest inj uries. He is convalescmg at his home. Sargent Cup Winner. G For the second year in succession Mr. J. Hurley has won the Sargent Cup for the most points in cut flowers, hydrangeas, fruit and vegetables at the Hawera autumn show. .
