MISSIONARY IN ISLANDS WELL-KNOWN NEW ZEALANDER. REV. WILLIAM VEITCH MILNE. NEARLY 40 YEARS' SERVICE ENDED.

Auckland, Apnl oU. The murder of a well known New Zealand missionary in the New Hebrides, the Rev. Wllliam Veitch Milne, by a native who ran amok on Tuesday night, is reported by cable to-day to tlie missioris committee of the Presbyterian Church by a fellow missionary, the Rev. B. C. Nottage,' who said death was instant. Mr. Milne was aged 60 years. Born in the New Hebrides, he was the fourth son of the Rev. Peter Milne, a missionafy in the islands from 1870 to 1924. Mr. William Milne cbmmenced work as assistant to his father in i90O on the island of Nguna, where he was killed. He married Miss J. Scott, Wyndham, near Invercargill, in 1905. There are three children, all of whom are in New Zealand. Two brothers are Dr. Peter Milne, formerly of Kenya Colony, .and Dr. Donaid S. Milne, Otaki. Mr. Milne was regarded as a particulariy competent man, devoted to his work wiork and to the people Under his charge. He last visited New Zealand in 1936.
