I STRAITS SETTLEMENTS' G1FT. APPRECIATION OF GOVERNMENT.
Rec. 11.10 p.m. Rugby, April 28. The Governor of the Straits Settlements, Sir T. S. Thomas, has reported to the Colonial Secretary, Mr. W. Ormsby Gore, that the Legislative Council unanimously adopted on Monday an motion for a gift of approximately £58,000 as a contribution towards the cost of Empire defence. Mr. Ormsby Gore, in informing the House of Commons to-day, expressed the Government's appreciation of this further generous gift from the colony.
