DOMINION-WIDE SALES FIRM RATES AT WESTFIELD. SMALLER YARDING SUBMITTED. Aucktland, April 28. A smaller yarding than usual of ox beef was cleared at firmer rates at Westfield to-day. The offering of cows and heifers was larger and they sold freely. Extra choice ox made 31/- per 1001b.; choice and prime, 27/- to 30/-; prime cow and heifer beef, 27/- to 28/-; unfinished, 17/- to 24/-. Extra heavy steers made £12 to £13/12/6; heavy, £11 to £11/17/6; medium, £10 to £11/2/6; light, £8 to £10/7/6; unfinished, £6/10/to £9/15/-; extra heavy cows and heifers, £8 to £9/7/6; heavy, £6/5/- to £7 15/-; lighter, £4/10/- to £6/17/6; unfinished, £2/10/- to £4. Sheep were in shorter supply and values improved. There was an average yarding of lambs, which sold freely at last week's rates. Extra heavy wethers made 33/3 to 35/6; heavy, 31/- to 35/-; medium, 28/6 to 33/-; light, 26/6 to 30/-; unfinished, 22/6 to 29/6; extra heavy ewes, 25/6 to 28/-; heavy, 23/6 to 28/-; iighter, 21/6 to 25/6; unfinished, 7/6 to 23/6; prime lambs, 20/- to 31/-; unfinished, 12/6 to £1/0/9. The yarding of calves was far smaller than usual, and values rose sharply, prices for all classes being 10/- a head better. Runners made £2/10/- to £5 10/-; heavy vealers, £3/18/- to £5/4/-; medium, £3/4/- to £3/16/-; light, £2/10/to £3/3/-; unfinished, £1 to £1/18/-; bobby and rough, 5/- to 30/-. Pigs were in better supply and, competition was keen, with prices well up to recent improved levels. There was an increasing demand for baconers. Choppers made £1/12/- to £3/12/-; heavy baconers, £3/10/- to £3/19/-; medium, £3/6/- to 3/9/-; light, £1/18/- to £3/3/-; heavy porkers, £2/9/- to £3/8/-; medium. £2/4/- to £2/18/-; light, £1/16/- to £2 1/-; small and unfinished, £1/5/- to £2 6/-; stores, 12/- to 20/-; slips, 6/- to 12/-; weaners, 4/- to 9/-. Baconers averaged 5Jd to 6d a lb.
