BIG ENTRY OF SHEEP AND CATTLE RECENT PRICES MAINTAINED.

Taumarunui, April 27. In spite of large yardings of cattle at other saies the entry at to-day's sale exceeded expectations, and some good quality cattle came forward. There was more than the average number of fat cattle, and bidding for these sorts was brisk between export buyers and local butchers. Young steers and heifers and run cows met with ready sale, and piactically the whole yarding, comprising nearly 1000 head, was cleared under the hammer. Fat cows made from £3 to £5 14s, and the best fat heifers sold to £5 16s. Fat steers and bullocks made £7 17s 6d to £10 2s 6d respectively. Two and a-half year-old Aberdeen Angus steers realised up to £7, and run cows, r.w.b., made up to £5. The yarding of sheep was augmented by an entry of 2000 ewes from Hawkes Bay, and these sold well, £2 2s 7d being the best price for two-tooth ewes, r.w.r., and 38s 6d was realised for four and six-tooth ewes. Local bred sheep maintained late rates, two-tooth ewes making up to 32s, while the best ewe lambs sold up to 31s 6d. Fat lambs changed hands at from lf: to 23s 5d, and wether lambs made from 14s ld to 17s 6d. The entry of pigs comprised stores and porkers, the former making up to 2Qe and the latter 35s 6d. There was a large attendance, buyers being present from Raetihi, Ohura, Matiere, Taranaki, Kopoki, Te Kuiti and Otorohanga. Saies were: — Pigs: — Light stores, 14s 6d, 15s to 16s; good stores, 17s, 17s 6d to 20s; porkers, 25s to 35s 6d. Sheep:— Fat ewes, 21s; store wethers, 23s 2d to 25s; small wethers, 11s to 20s 4d; good mouth ewes, S.D.r., 20s to 24s; two-tooth ewes, S.D.r., 32s; M.S. lambs, 12s 9d to 16s; wether lambs, 14s ld, 15s, 15s 3d to 17s 6d; ewe lambs, 20s, 22s, 27s 6d, 30s to 31s 6d; fat lambs, 19s to 23s 5d; Hawkes Bay ewes, two-tooths, 37s to £2 2s 7d; four-tooth and six-tooth, 38s 2d to 38s 6d; four-year-old ewes, 38s. Cattle:— Fat cows, £3 to £5 14s; fat heifers, £4 18s to £5 16s; fat steers, £7 17s 6d; fat bullocks, £10 2s 6d; cows or calves, £2 15s to £2 19s; boner cows, 20s to 27s 6d; mixed coloured empty heifers, £2 10s to £3; two and a-half year old Aberdeen Angus, Hereford and Shorthorn steers, £6 10s to £7; 18-month steers, £3 10s to £4 12s; Aberdeen Angus empty heifers, £4 6s; same yearling heifers, £2. 12s 6d; run cows, £3 5s; heifers in calf, £3 11s to £4 8s; Jersey eros s cows and heifers, £3 5s to £4 2s.
