Rallway Yards Metalllng. Instructions had been issued for the metalling of tlie railway yards at Toko, Douglas and Huiroa, the district engineer of railways, Mr. I. G. Howell, Wanganui, advised the Stratford subprovincial executive of the Farmers' Union yesterday. The executive had previously requested that the work be done. Farmers' Union and Council. Most members of the Farmers' Council were also members of the Farmers' Union, said Mr. H. E. Blyde, chairman, at a meeting of the North Taranaki executive of the Farmers' Union at Stratford yesterday, when a delegate, discussing "membership drive" plans, reported difficulty when interviewing a member of the Farmers' Council. Membership of the council did not debar any farmer from belonging to ihe union, it was stated. Inglewood Rolls Decrease. The result of an unusual shifting of population from Inglewood during the past month is a considerable fall in thc roll number of the primary school. The headmaster, Mr. C. W. Pearce, said yesterday that the total roll number at Easter was 216, the average attendance being 212.5. At the conclusion of the 1936 school year the roll stood at 234, there having been 16 admitted since and 34 withdrawals. There has been a noticeable scarcity of infant pupils. Inglewood Pavilion Fund. There is still approximately £50 to bi paid on the new Jubilee Park pavilion at Inglewood. The Mayoress, Mrs. J. Gibbs, has received several more donations to aid the borough council in the project. Donations are acknowledged as follows; Previously acknowledged £41 7s, Inglewood Jersey Cattle Club £1 ls, Messrs. Marshall and Thomason 5s, Egmont Village Cricket Club 9s, total £43 2s. Eltham Brass Band Euchre. Winners of the Eltham Brass Band's euchre contest were: Mr. S. W. Norris 1, Mr. W. Ruscoe 2, Mr. N. Tinney 3; Miss D. Kilbride 1, Mrs. O'Connor 2, Mrs. F. Cave 3. A competition was won by "Mollie." A dance was afterwards held, Messrs. G. Coxon and J. Sullivan being masters of ceremonies. Prior to the entertainment the band under the baton of Mr. V. Lester gave a rendition of the test selection and the quickstep. The band will take part in the Taranaki band contest at Waitara. Railway Business Increases. Outward revenue at the Stratford railway station in the year ended on March 31 was £22,927, an increase of £2457 on the figure for the previous year. More than 47,000 passengers embarked on trains at Stratford, an increase of 3404, accounting for £1158 of the increase, and a rise of 2245 tons in the quantity of ordinary goods handled was responsiblc for the remaining £1141. Tcnnis Abandoned. Petrie Shield tennis matches between Ngaere and Midhirst and Ngaere and Radnor Road, postponed earlier in the season because of wet weather, have been abandoned on account of the lateness of the season. The results would not have affected the competition, which has been won by Douglas. Eltham Library Books. Tlie following books have been added to the Eltham library: Rawhide (L. M.
