Body in Harbour. The body of a Wellington nightwatchman was recovered from the harbour by a diver. Pfemiums Increascd. Insurance premiums payable by motorists to cover passenger risk have been raised. • False Declarations. Five charges of making false declarations under the Employment Act were preferred agaifist a Dunedin man. Amalgamation Opposed. Opposition was expressed at an Invercargill meeting to the proposed amalgamation of two hospital districts. Uospital Board Criticised. Ci-iticism has been made of the Auckland Hospital Board for allegedly disregarding the advice of experts in appointing honorary surgeons. No "John Swinton." There has never been an editor of the Kew York Times called John Swinton, to whom the controller of the commercial broadcasting service recently attributed a quotation. Stabbing Aboard Ship. Stabbed in the stomach during a dispute aboard ship at Dunedin, an Indian was admitted to hospital seriously injured. His alleged assailant was handed over to the police. Minister's Denial. Replying to the Egmont County Council, the Hon. R. Semple denies that the Public Works Department is enticing farm workers. He *says farm workers are ineligible for public works.
