CORONER'S VERDICT
DEATH OF MAORI IN PRISON. \ SUDDEN HEART FAILURE. Death from chronic uraemia and sudden heart failure was tlie verdict retijrned by Mr. W. H. Woodward-, S.M., on Thursday at tlie inquest on a Maori, aged 74, who died on Tuesday wheri ahbtit. to be discharged from the New Plymouth prison. He collapsed in thf visitors' room when signiiig papers preliminary to his release. Dr. S. C. Allen was callefi and arranged for the man's removal' to "the hospital but he expired before he could be taken. ' Evidence was that the man- yias ,committed to prison the previous Friday on a warrant for the payment of a judgment summons debt for £18. He was old and feeble and appeared to be depressed. Subsequently he was put to bed .and ordered to be treated as an invalid and it was on Tuesday that arrangements were made for his release. Dr. Allen expressed the opinion that the man.; wai probably beyond medical aid long befbr# he went into prison, .*....
