OPENING OF GOLF CLUB

NEWS OF OKAIAWA DISTRICT. The Te Ngutu Golf Club was officially opened by the president, Mr. J. C. Barclay, on Saturday under perfeot weather conditions, There was a large attendance of members and visitors from neigh,bouring clubs. A Canadian foursome was played, the winners being Mr. and Mrs. Hutchens, Mangatoki. At the conclusion of afternoon tea Mr. Barclay wished the members a successful season and said he was . very pleased to see so many visitors. Replying for the visitors, Mr, Hutchens thanked the home club for the enjoyable aftemoon, and commented on the excellent order of the links for thc commencement of the season. Personals. Mr. Ribbon Matoe, a member of the Maori choir which is to tour abroad, was farewelled on Thursday at Okaiawa, on the eve of his departure for England. Mr. N. ■ Claluna has returned to Okai-. awa from Switzerland, where he' has spent several months. - • - On Saturday in perfect weaQier the Pre3byterian and Methodist Sunday school children, Okaiawa, held their annual picnic at Te Ngutu Park. ...... Misses N. and M. Doyle have returned from a holiday spent at Pahiatua and Wellington. Mr. Thame spent the week-end at Wellington. • , Mrs. Lees is visiting New Plymouth as the guest of Mrs. T. Innes, Vogeltown. Miss J. Robertson was Mrs. Lund's guest for the week-end. Mr. Dickenson, Wellington, was a visitor to Okaiawa during the week-end. Miss E. Washer and Miss Audrey Betts have returned from a .holiday spent in the Auckland district, St. Aidan's Anglican Church, Okaiawa, was decorated with flowers and fruit by members of the guild when the thanksgiving service was celebrated on Sunday evening. Special hymns were sung. The officiating minister was the Rev. Canon J. H. Sykes, Manaia. Mrs. J. C. Barclay was. at the organ.
