W. Spence will leave by the Awatea on Monday night from Wellington on an extended visit to Australia. She will stay with her daughter, Mrs.- P. Ferguson, at Sydney. Mrs. A. Coleman is touring the West Coast of the South Island, and will visit the Franz Josef glaciers and the Hermitage, Mount Cook. Mrs. E. J. K'ivell is spending the Easter vacation in the north. Mrs. A. Fraser and Miss O. V. Fraser, Foxton, are the guests of Mrs. L. J. Furrie. . ... , Mrs. J. B. Cresswell is a visitor to Whakatane. Mrs. J. Anderson is visiting Auckland and will return on Tuesday. Mrs. W. B. Farquharson entertained at afternoon tea on Thursday. Bridge Afternoon. The Portland Bridge Club met at the residence of Mrs. W. S. Spence on Tuesday afternoon. The drawing room was decorated with golden rubeckias, Michaelmas daisies and phlox. The hostess wore blue and white flecked marocain. Those playing were Mesdames A. W. Budge, A. Coleman, L. H. Jardine, F. F. D. Jeffi-ies, J. B. Cresswell, R. Curtis( and L. J. Furrie. Farewell Afternoon. Mrs. J. W. Spence, who will leave shortly for a holiday at Sydney, was the guest of honour at a farewell party on Wednesday afternoon, when Mrs. K. Neal was hostess. Her drawing room was gay with bowls of Iceland poppies, verbena and nasturtium gold shades, and she received her guests wearing a model frock of coronation blue and gold marocain. The guests were Mesdames J. W. Spence, N. F. Thorpe, J. Anderson, R. Curtis, F. P. D. Jeffries and L. J. Furrie. "Kitchen" Evening. Misses Ester Spearman and Jean Bonner were hostesses on Tuesday night at Miss N. Spearman's dancing studio in honour of Miss Doris Byron, whoss marriage will take place early next month. About 60 guests were present and many useful gifts were brought. Miss Ester Spearman's frock was of navy and white plaid taffetas and Miss Bonner wore a frock of blue flora:. georgette, cut on classical lines. A gown of green check georgette, with dainty waterfall frills at the neckline, was worn by Miss D. Byron. Mr. Keat was master of ceremonies and the evening was spent with games, dancing and competitions. After supper items were given by a few of Miss Norma Spearman's dancing pupils. They were: Solo dances, Misses E. Cruickshank and P. Jones; duo, Misses T. Barker and P.* Jones. !
