FEILDING MEETING
REVIEWS OF fHE FIELDS i CUP CONTEST PROSPECTS TARANAKI CANDIDATES i Taranaki stables will as usual be strongly represented at the Feilding Jockey Club's autumn meeting, which opens to-day and will conclude on Monday. Tlie opposition is strong but the Taranaki horses iook like gathering a fair share of the 'poils. The totalisator will operate on the single pool system. Following are details of the fields with a review in each case by "Hurry On": — 12.0—
Tlie top-weight Manawatu is scarcely likely to he ready, but Lord Hereford is reported to be well f orward. An improving hurdler in Bazaihe will receive plenty of support. after a runaway win at Bulls. Hunting Queen will only require to jump decently to posses's prospects and her trainer, L. G. Mqrris, usually gives his . charges plenty of schooling. Invictus, True Shaft and Otaki are possibilities but, the best of the lightweights may be King Pluto; who ran a really good race at Stratford: The main fancies 'may be HUNTING QUEEN BAZAINE LORD HEREFORD 12.40—
Erebus and Eara will ne bracfcetea on the totalisator and as both ran really good races at Stratford the bracket is likely to come in for solid support. Silver River and " The Bigot are smart three-year-olds but Dancing Lady will only require to- reproduce her Stratford form to keep them busy. Flying Chief' and Kentucky Song ran well enough at Stratford to be kept in mind, while Even Money and Gaelic Song are recent win.ners in novice class. Good support may come for EREBUS— EARA bracket DANCING LADY THE BIGOT 1.20—
This event has already been reviewed in detail. Dungarvan is likely to tackle the sprint, but if Lowenberg is- a starter he will be well backed after his good gallop on Tuesday. Onewhetu is reported to be sore but Taitoru came through his Stratford racing well. Royal Secret galloped well enough .on Wednesday . to draw attention to her prospects. The Buzzer and Maestro should be handy at th finish. The favourites . may be MAESTRO TAITORU LOWENBERG . ; 2.0- . - ' -
The second of Race Call to Even Money at Bulls draws attention to her chances, while Aurora's Love, who filled a similar position at Woodville, is also likely to be supported. Ohanga is another improver; as there was merit in his performance at Stratford. Lacan, a halfbrother to Chief Ranger and Roscrana, are possibilities. Good efforts may come from , OHANGA RACE CALL AURORA'S LOVE v in
Though Dungarvan has a big load ■ he is a good sprinter who can carry weight. Karl's recent form entitles him to respect but Ben Braggie's second to Gold Boa at Trentham makes more appeal. Refresher will probably be reserved for the Halcombe Handicap, and the best lightweight prospect would seem to be the Pahiatua winner Lady Ina. The popular selections may be BEN BRAGGIE DUNGARVAN LADY INA s 3.20-
The course will favour a smart begiiiner like Geira, but some of the lightweights may see that there is no loafing on the journey. Gay Molly and Laughing Chief ran well at Pahiatua,-, and Scarf Dance has only to reproduce her first day's • form at Wanganui to make matters interesting. Gaily, Lickem and Gay Marionette have all shown pace, while Notice and Aureus have breeding in their favour. Good efforts may come from GEIRA LAUGHING CHIEF GAY MOLLY 4.5-
Tlie two top-weights Catalogue and Reipar will have an opportunity to fight their Trentham battle over again. War Lap is in winning vein and Sanhedrin was a shade unlucky. at Stratford. Happy Hunting may surprise but the principal fancies may be REIPAR CATALOGUE SANHEDRIN 4.45-
. Gay Boy has little recent form . and Entail would be better suited by a distance of ground. Though getting on ui years Refresher galloped well enough on Thursday to possess prospects. Jubilee Song and Hunting Lodge raced well at Bulls. The Gisborne horse Huntette -has performed well eno.ugh to suggest that he may surprise. Tlie favourites may be HUNTING LODGE HUNTETTE , REFRESHER f 1 " •/ '
