D, MAYS BREAKS RECORD. LARGE ENTRIE3 IN ALL EVENTS. One record was broken and one equalled at tlie Hawera Technical High School sports 011 Thursday. D. Mays broke the record of 63s held previously by E. Kirkby for the junior boys' 440 yards, covering the distance in 62 3-5s. This record is subject to the track being certified. In the senior boys' 880 yards P. Hooper equalled tlie record established by E. Kirkby of 2m 17s. Large entries in all events was an outstanding feature of the meeting, particularly in the junior boys' championship, 20 entries being recorded. During the afternoon Mr. N. T. Lamt urne, Director of Education, accomDanied by Mrs. Lambourne, paid an informal visit to the ground. The principal, Mr. J. Dash, at the conclusion of the gathering called on Mrs. Lambourne to present tlie junior and senior girls' championship cups to Gloria Frank (eight points) and Mavis Collins (eight points) respectively. It would not be possible to present the cups for the boys' events uhtil the annual steeplechase had been run, said Mr. Dash. . Owing to the lateness of the hour it was not found possible to complete all events in the boys' classes, some finals remaining to be decided.
