STATEMENT BY M.P.

By Telegraph—Press Association.

PALMERSTON NORTH COUNCIL. MATTER REGARDED AS CLOSED.

Palmerston N., Oct. 6. A statement was made by C'ouncillor W. B. Tennent that it was not his intention to proceed further with any contemplated proceedings which he announced at a recent meeting of the City Council, when he stated that he intended to take action against Councillor J. Hodgens, M.P., in consequence of reference to Councillor Tennent contained in a telegram which Councillor Hodgens forwarded to the council three weeks ago. Councillor Tennent to-day said that though he considered the proper place for Councillor Hodgens to make a withdrawal of the statement was the councd table, he understood from people who attended a public meeting in the Opera House on September 19 that Councillor Hodgens there made the necessary withdrawal. Councillor Tennent now regards the matter as closed.
