BODY FOUND IN RIVER
HANDS TIED WITH HANDKERCHIEF. FARM HAND OF CLYDEVALE. By Telegraph—Press Association. Dunedin, Last Night. The body of a young man was discovered by a fisherman on Saturday morning on the north beach of the Taieri River, opposite a rock known as Governor’s Chimney. The body had evidently been in the water for some time as it was badly decomposed. It was fully clothed and the hands were tied in front with a handkerchief. The body was later identified as that of John Donald Souness, aged 23, a farm hand whose parents live at Clydevale. The young man left his home to come to Dunedin to exchange a motor-car for a motor-cycle. He later went to Christchurch and when he returned to Dunedin he was seen by his mother. He was then in good health and spirits but nothing further was heard of him till the body was found in the river. ■ There were no marks of violence on the body and foul play is not suspected. An inquest was opened this morning before Mr. H. W. Bundle, S.M., and adjourned sine die after evidence of identification had been given. ’
