MINISTER’S FIRST VISIT

WESTPORT’S EXCITEMENT TRIUMPHAL ENTRY TO THE TOWN. COASTAL VISIT FOR VICTORY BAIL. MR. SAVAGE AND LABOUR IDEALS. By Telegraph—Press Association. Westport, Last Night. The arrival of the Hon. P. C. Webb, Minister of Mines, on his first visit to Westport Since his elevation to the Ministry, was something in the nature Of a triumphal entry, a stream of gaily decorated cars led by the Mayor and Mayoress meeting the Minister at the cross roads about four miles from the town, and escorting him through the main street to Princes Hotel, where after several photographs were taken the Minister warmly thanked the large gathering for the fine reception given him. For the past 20 years, Mr. Webb said, the Labour Party had been talking in justification of its policy and convincing the people with good effect, for now it was the Government. The time Of talking was over and the Government must get on with its job, and it intended to do so. The people could rest assured that Labour would do the .job it was elected to do. , Unemployment would be as scarce as the moa. The Government was out to give work to those who deserved it. Those who were offered work and would not take it could expect little sympathy. Mr. Semple and he would go to the West Coast shortly on an official visit, Mr. Webb said. He was there on that occasion to attend the victory ball. Mr. Webb paid a warm and sincere tribute to the late Mr. H. E. Holland, whose memory was revered throughout the Dominion, and he assured the people that the Hon. M. J. Savage, the Prime Minister, was in line with their late leader in the ideals of Labour.
