WOMAN ASSAULTED BY HUSBAND. TWELVE YEARS’ IMPRISONMENT. By Telegraph—Press Assn.--Copyright Rec. 10.15 p.m. Sydney, Dec. 20. Victor Pomfret, a labourer aged 38 years, was to-day sentenced to 12 years’ imprisonment on a charge of manslaughter as a result of the death of his wife Ellen, aged 30 years. The evidence disclosed that Pomfret violently assaulted his wife, kicking her notwithstanding the fact that she was about to become a mother, her death resulting. Mr. Justice Sheridan described Pomfret as a loathsome person who was lucky to escape a murder charge.
