FAREWELL PARTY GIVEN

MR. AND MRS. S. R. GARDENER. A large number of parishioners of St. Stephen’s Church, Waverley, attended the farewell to the Rev. S. R. Gardener and Mrs. Gardener, who will leave Waverely at the end of December for St. Augustine’s, Napier. The Rev. E., R. E. Ross and Mrs. Rossi of St. Andrew’s Presbyterian Church, and the Rev. Walton and Mrs. Walton, Pgtea, were also present. Mr. Boyer occupied the chair in the absence through illness of Mr. A. J. Adlam,. people’s warden. Sympathy with Mr. Adlam’in his illness was expressed. On her arrival Mrs. Gardener was presented with a bouquet of pink sweet peas, gerberas and asparagus fern made by Mrs. Fowler. Those contributing to the short programme were Mrs. Graves and Mr. Boyer, and in a play-reading, “A Little Bit of Life,” Mrs. Graves, Miss Patterson, Mrs. Boyer and Mrs. Newland. Regret at the departure of Mr. and Mrs. Gardener was expressed by Messrs. Ross, Walton and Tennant and MtX Barrow (Sunday school superintendent'). Mr. Boyer took the opportunity of presenting a suitcase and a silver tea service to Mr. and Mrs. Gardener with good wishes for the future. Mr. Gardener replied.
