INGLEWOOD COURT

MOTOR REGULATIONS BREACHES. ACCIDENT ON LEVEL CROSSING. Two cases dealing with offences under the motor regulations were heard in the Magistrate’s Court at Inglewood yesterday before Mr. W. H. Woodward, S.M. For attempting to drive a motor-car across the Rata Street railway leve| crossing, when the line was not clear Margaret Dobbyn, Hursthouse Road, Inglewood, was fined 10s (costs 12s). She pleaded guilty. Constable F. Longbottom said Mrs. Dobbyn drove on to the crossing just at the time the south bound New Ply-mouth-Wellington express arrived. The train struck the car, which was badly, damaged. Mrs. Dobbyn and her child were unhurt. In view of the fact that the defendant suffered no personal injury in the accident she would no doubt have no objection to paying a small fine, remarked Mr. Woodward. Reginald Horsup, Waitara, was convicted . and ordered to pay costs 10s on a charge of riding a motor-cycle at night without headlights. Information was laid by W. E. Hinch, traffic inspector for the Inglewood Borough Council. Horsup pleaded not guilty, stating in his defence that the light had just gone out when the inspector stopped him. A severe bump as he crossed the railway line broke a wire in the back of the lamp. Only one civil case was dealt with. Judgment was given for Samuel Kilpatrick by default in his claim against H. Patterson for £1 10s 6d. Costs were fixed at Bs.
