SPECTACULAR PLAN

SEARCH FOR ELLSWORTH FLIGHT TO MAGALLANES SIX DAYS FROM AMERICA STEFANSSON TO ASSIST By Telegraph—Press Assn.—Copyright. Rec. 7 p.m. New York, Dec. 4. A spectacular flight to aid the search in the Antarctic for Mr. Lincoln Ellsworth will start within a few days, according to an announcement by Mr. F. Trubee Davison, president of the American Museum of Natural History, who has planned a relief expedition with the aid of Mr. V. Stefansson, the famous polar explorer. Captain Frank Hawk’s all-metal monoplane, a sister ship to Mr. Ellsworths Polar Star, has been acquired. Mr. Russell Thaw as pilot and Mr. William Klenke as aeronautical engineer will attempt to fly to Magallanes within six days. There the aeroplane will be loaded, the Wyatt Earp being used for establishing depots of supplies or for whatever purpose she may be needed. In a statement Mr. Davison said thq preparations were not based on any definite belief that Mr. Ellsworth and Mr. Rollick Kenyon were in serious difficulties, but on'a wish to translate powerful plans into action before suitable flying weather in the Antarctic ended. / DISCOVERY 11. TO HELP OFFER BY GOVERNMENT AUSTRALIAN EXPEDITION Rec. 9.10 p.m. Canberra, Dec. 5.' The British Government has agreed to place the Discovery II at the disposal of the Commonwealth Government for a search for Mr. Lincoln Ellsworth. The offer is dependent on a practicable scheme being devised in Australia for a rescue expedition. A conference of leading officers of the Royal Australian Air Force and the civil aviation branch will be held immediately to determine the best type of aircraft to be shipped on the Discovery 11. It is intended to despatch the vessel to the Bay of Whales, from which reconnaissance flights will be made to the point whence Mr. Ellsworth’s last signals were heard.

As soon as the details have been arranged a message will be sent to the President of the United States notifying him of the intention to despatch the expedition. The Discovery II is expected to reach Melbourne on December 9.
