OFFER TO MUSSOLINI 9 INCIDENTS IN CONFLICT ITALIANS FIRE ON GREEKS TWO FISHERMEN KILLED FRENCH SHIPS TO PATROL By Telegraph—Press Assn.—Copyright. Paris, Dec. 5. It is stated in a usually well-informed quarter that M. Laval has handed to Signor Cerutti, Italian Ambassador at Paris, suggestions to Signor Mussolini as an outline of what England and France consider a possible basis of settlemen of the Abyssinian conflict. It is emphasised that they are not definite proposals to be refused or accepted. The News Chronicle’s Paris correspondent states that Signor Mussolini refused to table his own terms to M. Laval. An Athens message says that an Italian destroyer, patrolling the neighbourhood of Leros for an unknown reason, fired on a Greek fishing boat. Two were killed and 14 wounded. It is learned from Nice that two French cruisers and three destroyers will cruise from Toulon on Sunday in Corsican waters.
A Dublin message says at the Fianna Fail convention Mr. Eoin O’Mahoney, expressing the opinion that sanctions would smash Italy, said tthat Signor Mussolini was the sole bulwark against Communism. If he went the Pope would have to go too. It was their duty to offer the Pope a home in Ireland until Italy regained her feet. It is announced at Rome that the customary New Year receptions of the diplomatic corps and notables by the King and Queen of Italy will not be held.
A decree suspends indefinitely the publication of Treasury and Bank of Italy returns and statements relating to the public debt.
