SERVICE TO SPORT

MR. ROBERTSON FAREWELLED. QUALITIES AND PUBLIC SPIRIT. Tributes to the personal qualities and public spirit of Mr. D. F. Robertson, Stratford, who will leave the district on promotion to Waverley to-morrow, were paid by representatives of organisations at a social last night. There was a large attendance. The Sports queen committee arranged the farewell, at which the United Old Boys Football Club and the Stratford Tennis Club were also represented. Mr. A. H. R. Amess, speaking on behalf of the president of the football club (Mr. A. Cook), who was absent through illness, expressed the club’s appreciation of Mr. Robertson’s, splendid work, especially in social activities. M r - D. McCready, who also spoke for the club, referred to Mr. Robertson as a worker as good as the club could ever hope to have. He presented Mr. Robertson with a leather suitcase.

Mr. A. S. Whyte, chairman of the Sports queen committee, referred to Mr. Robertson’s outstanding work as one of the committee’s joint secretaries, and his remarks were endorsed by Mr. J. C. Robins. Mr. Robertson had displayed in his public life the same ability and energy he had shown in his work, said Mr. Robins, and his promotion came as no surprise. The Sports queen, Miss G. Brown, presented Mr. Robertson with a travelling rug, Messrs. N. O. and R. L. Wynyard, of the carnival committee, and Mr. A. Huston, president of the tennis club, also spoke. The tennis club early in tiie week presented Mr. Robertson with a pipe. Mr. Robertson referred to the work of his co-secretary in the carnival, Mr. J. Stephens. He had enjoyed his public work.
