TOURIST PROSPECTS

OPTIMISM OF SOUTH ISLANDER. TASMAN AIR SERVICE POSITION. By Telegraph—Press Association. Dunedin, Dec. 3. Mr. C. Clibborn, secretary of the Lyttelton Harbour Board, who returned to New Zealand by the Marama, is most optimistic of the future of tourist trade to the South Island and the prospects of visits from cruise ships. Wide interest should be created, he said, by the publication of the report he was preparing for the Lyttelton board on the many phases of his investigations in Australia for the information of the board to- assist it in making provision for a seaplane landing base. He also made special inquiries about the trans-Tasman air service. The general manager of the air company at Sydney informed him that although, the scheme was held up in the meantime the company would continue with its plans, despite the loss of Sir Charles Kingsford Smith’s services.
