AUSTRALIA’S BIG WIN
WESTERN PROVINCES DEFEATED. BOWLING OF FLEETWOOD-SMITH. By Telegraph—Press Assn.—Copyright. Cape Town, Dec. 2. The Australian cricketers defeated Western Provinces by an innings and 41 runs. The Australians made 318 ana dismissed Western Provinces for 163 and 104. , . The weather was-fine and warm when the game was resumed. The wicket had worn patches at both ends and the ball popped up disconcertingly. ... Fingleton’s 53 occupied 167 minutes. McCabe batted brightly while O’Brien and Darling were never comfortable facing Robertson, a slow right-hand, offbreak bowler., Almost every batsman who attempted liberties with Robertson’s apparently simple deliveries paid the penalty. Robertson is almost certain now to be chosen for the first test. Western Provinces opened the second innings disastrously and the side never recovered. Bond played perfect cricket. The Australian fielding was brilliant and Barnett’s wicketekeeping was faultless. Fleetwood-Smith again had all of the batsmen guessing and finished with fine figures.
