HALF-CASTE CHINESE WOMAN.

(By Telegraph—Special to News). Taumarunui, Last Night. •

Mrs. Olive May Kung Yow was arrested yesterday after her baby, 2j months old, was found dead on the floor of an upstairs room with its neck almost severed. A sharp -cleaver was found near the body. Mrs. Yow was charged at the Magistrate’s Court this afternoon before justices of : the peace with murdering her daughter. Sergeant C. Harley prosecuted and Mr. D. H. Hall appeared for the accused. After being charged Mrs. Yow made no reply and was remanded for ten days. Mrs. Yow had to be assisted in and out of.the courtroom. An inquest was opened subsequentlybefore Mr. W. Thomas, J.P., acting-cor-oner, and a jury concerning the death of Nancy Kung Fow. Evidence: of iflentification was given by Don Kung Yow, the father, and the inquest was adjourned sine die. The accused woman is a half-caste Chinese about 27 years old. Her mother was a European and her maiden name was Olive Cronin. She was taken to China when an infant and later married Don Kung Yow and came to live with him at Taumarunui three years ago. Mrs. Yow has no education and is-unable to speak English. She spent practically all her time in the living room with her children.
