RESIGNATION OF COUNTY CLERK. TRIBUTES TO MR. H. W. MARTIN. The resignation of the Inglewood county clerk, Mr. H. W. Martin, was accepted with regret at the monthly meeting of the council yesterday. Members made appreciative references to Mr. Martin, acknowledging his ability, _ ana wished him success in his new position. Mr. Martin has accepted a position with General Motors (N.Z.) Ltd., Wellington. In tendering his resignation, to take effect from December 31, 1935, Mr. Martin expressed appreciation of the sideration extended him, during his years of office by every councillor. . Mr. Martin had been a most efficient officer for the county, said Cr. G. W. Gibson in moving that the resignation be accepted with regret. Cr. J. Stachurski said he appreciated it .Was inevitable that a man of Mr. Martin s ability should obtain a higher position. Cr. W . M. Willans remarked on the clarity and conciseness l with which the clerk had presented the accounts. Mr. Martin had put the books on a sound, businesslike basis. Cr. Willans also expressed regret that Mr. Martin was to leave the service of the council. The acting-chairman, Cr. H. .Jones, said he was sorry for the ,county’s sake that Mr. Martin was leaving, but he was pleased at the promotion. The clerk had done his utmost for the county.
