“EVERY CONFIDENCE”

MR. DICKIE AT HURLEYVILLE. The National Government candidate, Mr. A. G. Dickie, received an attentive hearing at Hurleyville on Saturday afternon. Mr. Dan Hurley junr. presided. In opening Mr. Dickie stated there was an erroneous impression concerning his visit to London with the Parliamentary delegation. The Parliamentary Association of which he had been a delegate was an association supported entirely by subscriptions from members of Parliament.

Asked what the Dairy Commission cost the country, he said it was about £l4OO. Those serving on this commission, as on other commissions, received £2 a day and paid their own expenses. Mr. Dickie said Cabinet had raised the exchange and his attitude was against it but he had voted to indemnify the banks. There had been no vote on the raising of the exchange. Mr. N. Nelson moved a vote of thanks and “every confidence” in Mr. Dickie and his party, which was carried by acclamation. Mr. Dickie thanked the chairman. PERSONAL ITEMS. Mr. J. A. Hansen, Waimate West county engineer, is in the Hawera hospital. Mr. B. Borrie, Manaia, left last wpek for Glen Afton, where he has accepted a position. Mr. and Mrs. Bert Candy, Tauranga. are the guests of Mr. and Mrs. A. 11. Christie, Manaia. Mr. A. Merrie, Manaia. who has been in the Hawera hospital, has returned to his home, : .. , --—• .
