BEST GAME OF TOUR
PRAISE FOR ALL BLACKS
FORWARDS GAIN MASTERY
“A MOMENTOUS VICTORY”
SCOTTISH BACKS GOOD
By Telegraph—Press Association. London, Nov. 24.
“After making every possible exctise for the beaten side, it is bare justice to New Zealand to grant that the match at (Murrayfield was not only their most spectacular and most momentous victory, but in every way it was the best match of the tour thus far,” says the Times.
“From the front row of the scrummage in which Hadley became an inspiring example, backwards through the side to Gilbert, the All Blacks at last seem to have found themselves as a team of the highest class.” The Daily Telegraph, after sympathising with Scotland with regard to the New Zealanders scoring while their opponents were disorganised by Murdochs injury, says: “The All Blacks thoroughly deserved their victory, which they owed largely to the forwards. They heeled quickly, whereas the ball came through the Scottish scrummage slowly and clumsily. Even after the interval, .when the Scottish backs did better, their heeling was still too sluggish to give the backs much hope of a successful attack. If the New Zealanders are to be beaten they must first be outscrummaged. The Scottish backs, I believe, could have won the match behind a real scrumming pack.” , . A Press Association message from Wellington states that the New Zealand Rugby Union has sent the following message to the All Blacks: ‘Congratulations on your splendid game and the winning of the first test.”
