GOOD WISHES GIVEN
MR. POLSON AT INGLEWOOD. REVIEW OF HIS POLICY., . Mr, W. J. Polson addressed a large meeting at Inglewood last night, the deputy-Mayor, Mr. F. Spurdie, presiding. At the end of the meeting a motion of thanks and best wishes for the success of Mr. Polson’ campaign was carried with applause. Mr. Polson gave a comprehensive review of the Government’s policy, which he said was one of sound, steady progross. He quoted figures to show that the Dominion’s position was improving and that the improvement was being maintained. The Labour policy, on the other hand, was one that could not be put into effect without an enormous increase in taxation or else inflation which would be worse. The Government had begun to reduce taxation, and the reduction would be maintained. Mr, Polson also made reference to the unemployment policy that he had encleavoured to have investigated and put into operation, and which leading authorities were confident would have succeeded in getting large numbers of men back into their own occupations at standard rates of pay. It was now being adopted in but he had received nothing but opposition from the Labour Party when he had endeavoured to have it investigated two or three years ago. In connection with the denial of Mr. Savage and Mi*. Munro of the accuracy of the report of the latter’s Dunedin speech, Mr. Polson read a message received from the Otago Daily Times, which had also been published in the Wellington papers guaranteeing the corlectness of the report, which had been written by an experienced journalist uho had been present at the meeting, and whose integrity and ability could be vouched for. It was difficult, said Mr. Polson, to see why Mr. Munro should trouble to deny it as a very similar speech had been made by Mr. J. A. Lee, M.P., just before the Auckland riots.
