The Brazilian Government mobilised its armed forces to-day to attack revplutionists who are admitted to be leading a formidable movement against the Government in the north-eastern States of Rio Grande do Norte. Alagoas, Pernambuco and Parahyba.
According to private reports, which’ are partially confirmed by the Government, the revolution is Communistic in nature.
Government reports indicate that soldiers of the 21st battalion of chasseurs stationed at Natal revolted, imprisoned their officers and are now in possession of the city. A battalion at Pernambuco attempted a similar coup but was defeated by loyal troops. It is reported that naval and air units are being rushed to the scene from Rio de Janeiro and that a large army will move overland if necessary.
