LODER CUP WINNER
MRS. KNOX GILMER CHOSEN. THE PROTECTION OF FLORA. By Telegraph—Press Association. Wellington, Last Night. After considering nominations which came forward for the Loder Cup this year a sub-committee appointed by the Wellington Horticultural Society has reported that it unanimously recommends that the trophy be awarded to Mrs. Knox Gilmer, Wellington. Under the new scheme of competition, which is open to all New Zealand, the cup is awarded annually to the person or organisation whose work does most in furthering the sentiments of the donor, Lord Wakehurst, to encourage the protection and cultivation of the Dominion’s flora.- The sub-committee’s reasons for recommending Mrs, Knox Gilmer were that the Act to provide for the protection of native plants was largely due to her efforts and that the idea of reviving Arbor Day after nearly 20 years’ lapse was entirely due to her.
