NEW MINERAL INDUSTRY

DISCOVERY IN BRITISH COLLIERY. After years of depression, the coal mining town of Annfield Plain, Englana, is regaining its prosperity. The reason is witherite, a mineral four times as valuable as coal. This mineral, which is the chief source of barium salts, and is used in the preparation of rat poison and in the manufacture of glass and porcelain, was discovered by chance in the workings at the Morrison Colliery here there years ago. The colliery company has now erected modern plant, and men who formerly hewed coal, are blasting out witherite. The deposits are so rich that they will provide at least 40 per cent of th* world’s supply.
